For International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, Hon. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi launched the “Pad Up Our Girls” campaign in Oshodi/Isolo II, distributing sanitary pads and educating secondary school girls on menstrual hygiene. The two-day event, held on May 28-29, 2024, aimed to empower young girls with knowledge about health, hygiene, and self-confidence during their transition to womanhood. The program also addressed issues like stigmatization, abstinence, and female empowerment, receiving positive feedback from students and school management.
International Menstrual Hygiene Day: “Pad Up Our Girls”
This year’s International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024 witnessed a rear angle in giving back to society.
Hon. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, member House of Reps, Abuja from Oshodi/Isolo 11, under the umbrella of the Labour Party keyed in, flagging off his two days campaign tagged “PAD UP OUR GIRLS” with distribution of Pads and sensitization of secondary schools in his constituency Oshodi/Isolo 11 LGA.
The program which held on the 28th- 29th May, 2024 saw a bee hive of activities in the various schools mapped out.
At one of the venues been the Air Force Secondary School in Ikeja the response and zealousness was quite amazing amongst the participants.
The Program Co-ordinator who is in charge of the women and health of the Hon Joe Foundation (HOJF), Mrs Uchenna Ofomata highlighted on the major objective of the program which hinged on “Catching the young ones in time” been also a primary focus of her principal .
Affirming that Honorable Joe Onuakalusi believes the girl child has to be sensitized on how to be in charge and take control during her road to woman hood.
Creating awareness on hygiene for the girl child and also sensitizing her on stigmatization, Abstinence from wrong alternative options, Health and Education, Women and Youth Empowerment, Impact to community amidst others ranks amongst major focus.
Comrade Bolaji Belinda Bayode the Chairman, on Menstrual Hygiene health in her tutorial session with the students, took her time to address the major focus of the program as well as engage them in a resounding questions and answers segment on Menstrual Hygiene issues and experiences.
With the active participation and encouragement of the management of the Air Force Secondary School Ikeja, who contributed positively to making the program a success.
The program finally came to an end.
The students voiced out their accolade on the Principal Organiser Hon. Okey- Joe Onuakalusi and his health crew on their efforts towards the FEMALE CHILD EDUCATION IN NIGERIA.
